Born and bred in Perth, Gavin completed a Bachelor of Vision Science at UWA before relocating to Melbourne to complete his Bachelor of Optometry Degree. Following this he completed Postgraduate qualifications in Advanced Clinical Optometry and Ocular Therapeutics allowing him to treat various eye conditions with topical medicines. He has developed an aptitude in complex contact lens fitting for various corneal conditions including keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-corneal graft and other irregular corneas. He is also highly experienced in Orthokeratology (Ortho-k) and Myopia Control. Gavin loves solving peoples vision related problems and making a positive difference in their lives.

Ross grew up in Zimbabwe and graduated from the Witwatersrand School of Optometry in 1986. Ross then relocated to the Province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) in 1986, where he began practicing optometry after passing the Provincial Board exams. Ross sat the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand (OCANZ) board examinations in 2001 and then relocated to Australia in 2003 and practiced in Adelaide from until 2005. He relocated to Perth in 2005 and joined Abernethy Owens Optometrists.

He has been active in his profession over the years, serving two terms as President of PEI Provincial Association of Optometrists and as a councillor to the Canadian National Association of Optometry. In Australia Ross served on the board of the WA Optometrist Association for six years.

Ross enjoys all aspects of primary care optometry and treats patients of all ages including children. He is therapeutically endorsed and has a keen interest in ocular disease. Ross consults in our Kardinya practice.

Caroline is Perth born and bred, and went to Melbourne to study for her optometry degree. On her return to Perth in 1992 she began working at Abernethy Owens Optometrists. Caroline spent two years on the WA Optometry Association Council early in her career. She is currently undertaking the Ocular Therapeutics studies and will soon be qualified to prescribe medicated eye drops for certain eye conditions.

Her main interests are in contact lens fitting, particularly Keratoconus and more complex cases. Caroline enjoys seeing people of all ages and finding the best visual solutions for her patients. The constant improvements in technology for detection of eye disease is keeping her challenged and excited about patient eye care.

Caroline has two daughters and enjoys reading and travelling. Caroline consults at our Fremantle and Kardinya practices.

Shermaine completed her Bachelor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne in 2011. This included completion of Ocular Therapeutics requirements allowing Shermaine to prescribe medicated eye drops to treat certain eye disease. She has an interest in all aspects of optometry, in particular Shermaine enjoys keeping up to date with the latest technology and imaging equipment which assist in the early detection and management of eye diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Shermaine looks forward to providing comprehensive and tailored eye care solutions for all her patients and their families.

Jenny has over 20 years’ experience as a clinical optometrist. Her career began at the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne, where her work included clinical teaching, providing care to those from diverse cultural backgrounds and working in multidisciplinary care settings. She completed the post graduate certificate in Ocular Therapeutics in 2001.

Since moving to Perth in 2010, Jenny has enjoyed working with the team at Abernethy Owens. She provides thorough consultations with a focus on listening to and caring for each patient as an individual. Jenny strives for excellent solutions for her patients with a focus on helping them to understand their vision and eye health.

Gillian was born in Yorkshire and graduated from the University of Bradford in 1981 with BSC Honours in Ophthalmic Optics. After working in Hull and London she immigrated to Perth in 1985, and spent some years working in a small family practice in the city.

Two children later she joined Abernethy Owens a few months after opening the Woodvale practice in 1993 and has worked there ever since. She has a strong connection with the community and has loved the continuity that working from the same practice for 20 plus years has provided. Gillian likes to see patients of all ages, enjoys fitting contact lenses and has a well-established rapport with local doctors and ophthalmologists.

In her spare time she loves to be outdoors running, cycling and swimming. Gillian consults in our Woodvale practice.

Upon returning to Perth, he commenced his career with Abernethy Owens Optometrists in 2011. He enjoys providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, including children. He has experience in many types of contact lens fitting including orthokeratology. As a therapeutically endorsed optometrist, Alvin is able to prescribe medicated eye drops to treat certain eye conditions.

Outside optometry, Alvin is a keen musician, playing piano and arranging music in his spare time. Alvin consults from our Rockingham and Floreat practices.

Kathy is currently completing her post graduate studies in Ocular Therapeutics whereby, on completion, she will be able to further treat and manage eye disease.

With Chinese ancestry, Angel was born in Malaysia and emigrated to Perth with her family 30 years ago. Angel completed her Vision Science degree, graduating with Honours in 2001 and then went on to complete her Bachelor of Optometry in Melbourne in 2004.

Angels' main passion is educating her patients and providing the best solutions for their eye care needs. She recently completed the Brian Holden Myopia Control course and hopes to be more proactive in helping slow the progression of myopia in appropriate patients.

Zaskia qualified as an optometrist in South Africa in 2003.  After a few years in private practice she decided to venture abroad and spent 5 years working in the UK.  There, Zaskia worked there as a home visiting optometrist helping the elderly and housebound individuals.  She moved to Perth and joined Abernethy Owens in 2012 which has provided her with a platform from which to enjoy all aspects of Optometry. Zaskia especially enjoy's working with the older generation.  She also enjoy contact lens fitting and recently started learning more about specialised contact lens fittings which she hopes to expand on in the near future.
