Caroline is Perth born and bred, and went to Melbourne to study for her optometry degree. On her return to Perth in 1992 she began working at Abernethy Owens Optometrists. Caroline spent two years on the WA Optometry Association Council early in her career. She recently completed her Ocular Therapeutics studies and is now qualified to prescribe medicated eye drops for certain eye conditions.

Her main interests are in contact lens fitting, particularly Keratoconus and more complex cases. Caroline enjoys seeing people of all ages and finding the best visual solutions for her patients. The constant improvements in technology for detection of eye disease is keeping her challenged and excited about patient eye care.

Caroline has two daughters and enjoys reading and travelling. Caroline consults at our Fremantle and Kardinya practices.

Shermaine completed her Bachelor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne in 2011. This included completion of Ocular Therapeutics requirements allowing Shermaine to prescribe medicated eye drops to treat certain eye disease. She has an interest in all aspects of optometry, in particular Shermaine enjoys keeping up to date with the latest technology and imaging equipment which assist in the early detection and management of eye diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Shermaine looks forward to providing comprehensive and tailored eye care solutions for all her patients and their families.

Gavin Swartz Gavin Swartz

Born and bred in Perth, Gavin completed a Bachelor of Vision Science at UWA before relocating to Melbourne to complete his Bachelor of Optometry Degree. Following this he completed Postgraduate qualifications in Advanced Clinical Optometry and Ocular Therapeutics allowing him to treat various eye conditions with topical medicines. He has developed an aptitude in complex contact lens fitting for various corneal conditions including keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-corneal graft and other irregular corneas. He is also highly experienced in Orthokeratology (orthok) and Myopia Control. Gavin loves solving peoples vision related problems and making a positive difference in their lives.

As an Honorary Teaching Fellow of the University of Auckland Gavin provides mentor and teaching services to Bachelor of Optometry students on their practical placements in their final year of study. Gavin Consults between our Floreat and Fremantle practices.

Sarah recently graduated with a Masters of Optometry from Flinders University in Adelaide. Her degree provides Sarah with therapeutic endorsement as an Optometrist allowing her to prescribe medicated eye drops and manage treatment where necessary.

Sarah has a keen interest in all aspects of Optometry, particularly in binocular vision and children's eye care. She believes in providing high quality, individualised eye care for all her patients, taking the time to tailor eye health care and eye wear solutions to each patients requirements. Sarah enjoys keeping up to date with the latest evidence and clinical news and applying this to her practice.

Sarah spends her free time baking, swimming and is enjoying exploring all that Perth has to offer. Sarah consults at our Fremantle and Rockingham practices.

Nick Lee Nick Lee

Originally hailing from New Zealand, Nick completed his Bachelor of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Auckland in 2018 and made the jump across to Perth shortly after. Nick is a therapeutically endorsed Optometrist, so is able to prescribe topical medications for many eye conditions within general practice.

Nick enjoys all scopes of optometry, but has special interests in Myopia Control and specialty contact lens fittings including orthokeratology. As part of his studies, he co-authored a paper and presented his findings at the 2017 International Myopia Conference. Being able to make a tangible difference to people’s everyday lives through their eyes is one of Nick’s favourite things about being an optometrist. He enjoys taking the time to explain issues arising throughout the examination and being able to offer personalised and tailored eye care.

Outside of work, you might find Nick in the pool, at the beach or trying new food eateries around Perth. Nick consults at our Fremantle and Floreat practices.
