Alvin was born and raised in Perth. He later moved to Melbourne to complete his Bachelor of Optometry, with placements in Melbourne, regional Victoria and Waterloo, Canada. Upon returning to Perth, he commenced his career with Abernethy Owens Optometrists in 2011. He enjoys providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, including children. He has experience in many types of contact lens fitting including orthokeratology. As a therapeutically endorsed Optometrist, Alvin is able to prescribe medicated eye drops to treat certain eye conditions.

Outside Optometry, Alvin is a keen musician, playing piano and arranging music in his spare time. Alvin consults from our Rockingham and Floreat practices.

BBiomedSc, OD UWA

Julia grew up in Fremantle and completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, majoring in both Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Western Australia. Following this, she went on to study the Doctor of Optometry Program at UWA, earning both an OD and ocular therapeutics qualification, and was a part of the first graduating cohort of optometrists in Western Australia. Throughout her final 3 years of study, Julia also worked as an optical assistant in the Fremantle practice on Saturday mornings.

Julia’s favourite thing about optometry is getting to transform her knowledge of anatomy and human sciences into helping people with their vision and ocular needs. She is always up for a chat and loves learning new things from others! In her spare time, Julia enjoys exploring regional Western Australia, with the hopes to one day complete a road trip around the country. She is also a self-declared foodie and is always on the hunt for new places to try.

BSc(Neuroscience); OD UWA

Born and raised in Perth's southern suburbs, Liberty completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Neuroscience at the University of Western Australia. After spending several years working in a variety of different roles in the health sector, Liberty discovered her passion for helping people and problem solving. This led her to pursue Optometry at the University of Western Australia, now having graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree.

After completing many placements during her studies, including trips to Karratha, Geraldton and Vietnam, Liberty has found her areas of interest including managing ocular disease, managing myopia progression in children and all things contact lenses. Liberty loves that optometry combines these interests with her love of problem solving, allowing her to help people achieve the best visual solutions. Outside of work, Liberty enjoys spending time at the beach walking her dog and baking.
