Dry eye is a common condition affecting up to 20% of the Australian population and mainly caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. Females are more affected than males with symptoms increasing with age. The main symptoms of dry eyes are itchy, watery, irritated eyes. When advanced, dry eye causes great discomfort in our day to day life and can prevent us from performing everyday tasks such as working on a computer or staying in an air-conditioned environment. The excessive use of smartphones, artificial lights and air pollution can exacerbate the problem.

Over the last 5 years a treatment using intense regulated pulsed light (IPL) technology has proven its efficiency by providing dry eye sufferers with long-lasting relief. The treatment is gentle, quick and significant improvement can be experienced after just 3 sessions in more than 86% of patients. The light emitted during the treatment targets the nerve linked to our Meibomian Glands in order to stimulate them so they can return to their normal function and improve the symptoms of dryness. More than treating dry eyes, the IPL technology also helps to prevent the disease and treat it at a very early stage.
